Hello,

first i must inform you about my bad english.

I want to use your very nice simple:press wordpress-plugin on my homepage. But i have to different problems with the simple:press-plugin.

First i installed the plugin on my localhost with an Apache-webserver. I used the newest wordpress-version 4.4.2 und the php-version 5.6.3. On the localhost i want to use the mingle importer, but it dosen´t work. I became the errror: Unable to query FORUMS using the db settings supplied!

localhost Installation

The import of the old mingle forum is very important for me!

Than i installed the simple:press forum on my active homepage, i want to test the mingle importer on the active homepage. But there i have annother Problem. After the installation auf simple:press forum only the "Admins"-Menu ist available, see the Picture:

online installation

I hope you have solutions for both problems, so that i can use the simple:press forum!

At least i have a question about a forum-widget, i didn´t found a widget for the simple:press forum or I have simply overlooked. Is there for the Forum a widget?

I hope, you could understand my english!?!

Thanks for your help!

Hey Ralf,

I've got no experience with the importer myself so will probably have to wait for someone else to take a look.. However, I have searched the forum and can find one instance of the error message you've seen - In relation to PHPBB however, not Mingle. Still perhaps it's a similar issue?

'For anybody else having a similar problem, when you upgrade PHP.BB from version 2 to version 3 it creates a second database and install of PHP.BB in another folder of your root domain and to import you have to use the database details from the config file of this second installation'

https://simple-press.com/suppo.....e/#p100483

So, your second question - Did the import work OK there?

The 'Admin' menu is only visible on it's own for people who are WordPress admins and not Simple Press admins as they are not the same. Are you using the same account you used when you installed Simple Press?

The import problem is almost certainly going to be down to entering incorrect credentials of some kind.

Try it again when you have access to the admin which, as Ike says, needs you to login as the same user that installed it.

Hello,

thanks for your fast ansers!

I have installed the simple:press forum on my active homepage, because i wanted to test, if incorrect credentials, the apache-werserver or the locolhost-sql cause the problem of the mingle-importer... there I had to use the active SQL of my webhost, ect.. But i coundn´t test it, because i didn´t see the menu of the importer. Ofcouse i used the same admin-account that i have used for the installation of simple:press. If I understand your answer correctly, is it possible that my admin account did not obtain the rights of the simple:press-admin. I will test to give my admin account the rights directly with phpMyAdmin. Than i will give you feedback...

Hey,

i have solved both of my problems.

The second problem with the missing menu was a problem with the rights. The rights are written in the SQL-table "usermeta -> capabilities". I don´t know why, but the rights for the simple:press-forumadmin weren´t set correctly on my active homepage SQL. I thing annother plugin "BackWPup", an wordpress backup-plugin, that has also set rights in the SQL-Table "usermeta->capabilities" disturb the installation of simple:press. I have copied the rights for simple:press from my localhost installation in the active SQL-table to solve this problem.

On my active homepage was the mingle importer operate without a problem...

So simple...

Thanks for your support to bring me to the right path!

At least my last question, do you have an idea, how i can get a widget for the startside of my homepage. I want to inform my users about new Forum contents already when they have a look an the startside of my homepage.

Good stuff! Glad you got it resolved. Shame to hear that the plugin was probably the cause.

As for the widget, we offer the Template Tags and Widgets plugin that will give you the recent post list as you can see at the bottom here.
