Last Guests Post details being held and visable to next guest that posts

When a guest posts on the forum they type in their display name and email, when another guest goes to post on any computer that information is stored and they can see the last guest details.

So if Guest 1 posts a question then Guest 2 goes to answer it, Guest 1's details will appear in the 'display name' and 'email' boxes and we have an example of a user answering themselves becuse Guest 2 didn't notice the details above.

Obviously this isn't good as it is sharing details that it shouldn't. I have turned off storing guest details in a cookie so not sure where it is pulling this information from.

Can you help?

I assume that you mean when two guests are sharing the same computer to post to your forum. Yes?

The option to turn off guest cookies will prevent them from getting saved but it does look like we are not checking that option when reading them back in so I have opened a ticket to get that fixed up for the next SP update.

I guess it is pretty rare for two 'guests' to use the same machine but I can see that it can happen.

No this is what doesn't make sense, it is any computer. Guest 1 in Bristol, UK, Guest 2 in Leeds, UK?

I am using Total cache but it is deactived for the forum.

Any ideas?

Hi Thanks for your time, it looks like Total Cache wasn't ignoring the page correctly and hanging onto the details somewhere. I have deactived it for the forum again and this time it is no longer holding the data.

Ah excellent. I had been pondering the previous post while out walking my dogs trying to work out if there was any way that was possible!

Having same problem. Can you tell me what you changed please Kenn?

I have added '/forum/' to:

"Add here strings (not a filename) that forces a page not to be cached. For example, if your URLs include year and you dont want to cache last year posts, it’s enough to specify the year, i.e. ’/2004/’. WP-Cache will search if that string is part of the URI and if so, it will not cache that page."

Many Thanks

Craig

Hi Craig,

You have entered it in the same area as I did except I didn't add the trailing / so I would just put in /forum, don't forget to empty all the caches and be sure it's not storing it in your users browser cache.

I have a new issue now after running about 10 simplepress updates the forum toolset has stopped working and is appearing blank so I have turned the cachin plugin off temporarily, unfortunately this hasn't fixed the new issue so will be turning it back on today.

Post back if you manage to get it working ok.

After further investigation it is the object cache that seems to be holding on to the data not the brwser/page chace settings ther is a box to ignore elements but I am unsure what to add.

Craig: I would have expected either to work but Kenn may well be right. Assuming your forum slug IS 'forum' of course! And as he says there may still be cached versions lying around.

Kenn: Do you mean the admin 'toolbox' panels have vanished? Or the front end forum tool popup?

Thnks for yor reply, it seems to be a morning of it today and would appreciate any assistance you can give.

Since updating all the simplepress plugins yesterday the dropdown forum toolset has been appearing blank. I have gone trough and noticed recomendations on other posts regarding theme conflicts however any posts made before the updates the forum toolset still appears with data in any new posts appear a blank box with no data. I had a custom theme running and have tried reverting to the default but this doesn't fix the issue. turned my theme back on and now can't get the sky blue overlay to activate (which is the customers preference) and its in black and gold.

If I PM so login details over would you mind having a look.

Thanks

I think I must have an error in the custom theme amendments I have made that conflicts with your updates, are there release notes on the theme changes so I can add them to mine?

Well - that all sounds most strange... yes of course we could take a look.

Please PM credentials to both myself and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.

If you can possibly make that an SP Admin account it might help to look at some of your SP settings...
