here are screens of a sample user:

http://screencast.com/t/a1bcZ21oVIXj
http://screencast.com/t/uOwz8YR5t
http://screencast.com/t/7cyTG9AkRW
The user is in the proper user group. the user group has the proper rights upon several forums and still he doesn't see anything 🙁
P.S. Just realized that my permissions are all empty. During the update they must have been lost. is there a way to restore the default permissions? I had not changed them, see here: http://screencast.com/t/jCD8qalTl
Yes - I am sorry about this. We have had, I believe, 3 such occurrences and am still unsure why but are investigating and trawling the update code to see if we can work out what the problem might be. I am sure you realise it can be very difficult to pinpoint a condition that only happens to, say, 1 user in a 1000 or so.
I guess a reset to defaults might not be a bad idea. We have never been asked for it before and I suppose have always taken the view that we rather hope users will adjust their permission settings to suit their requirements. But worth discussing.

did you happen to make a db backup before you upgraded? we have several thousands upgrades/installs since 5.0 release and a handfull with this same issue... would love to resolve... but cannot duplicate currently so a db from which to experience would be good.

If you would be willing to let us have a copy for tests we would very much appreciate it. Sometimes, seeing the data itself is the only way to find that one little condition that we are missing. So if there is a chance of a zip of the db - which will be destroyed immediately after analysis - then please do send a copy. support at simple-press dot com - thanks
