Support Forum
For some reason, Simple Press is assigning a rank of Moderator to new members automatically although their individual groups and permission sets do not give them moderator access. However, on the forum page, where it lists Moderators, it shows a huge list of people who don't actually have that role. Is there a way to edit individual user's ranks?
Global permissions are set to not give any of these members moderator access, and the individual groups and forums also do not give moderator access. I even edited the rank settings to make anyone who posts up to 5,000 simply a Member rank. I'm not sure why it's doing this. The functionality of the forums seems to be in tact, it's just the huge list of Moderators at the bottom that is inaccurate.
All of the permission sets and groups are set up accurately as far as I can see. We do have S2 Members plugin installed as well and it is integrated with the Simple Press. I'm not sure how this would affect it, though. At this point, only paid registered members can access the forum, and there are only a couple of different groups within the forum. General forums are available to all members, and specific forums that contain archived material from elsewhere on the site are made available to the highest level of membership only.
Have you had this issue come up before and is there a fix?
The site is http://www.opitonmillionaires.com although as I mentioned the forum is only visible to paid subscribers.
Mixed terminology here. If - as you say - you have a large list of moderators being shown in the stats area at the bottom of the forum then this has nothing to do with ranking. Users are not made 'moderators' through the ranking system.
Users are made 'moderators' by being assigned into a User Group that has the 'Is Moderator' option turned on. And the list of moderators displayed in the Stats area is determined by this condition.
So are you sure this is not the case - that this option is turned on in one of the User Groups by mistake?
By the way - I will remove your other post on the same subject.

All of the permission groups have been checked and double checked. I realize that this issue shouldn't involve rank, however, when looking at the user list, in the rank column many have Moderator listed instead of Member. That's why I've been trying to see if I could somehow edit that rank for members.
The easiest and quickest route would be for you to let me in to your site admin to take a look if that would be possible.
If willing then please PM credentials to both myself and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you. Please make this account an SP Admin (Admins > Manage Admins).
If that is nit possible then I will try and work out what questions I need to ask you!

Actually there is one question I would ask.
I was having a little problem - understandably - trying to discern whether all those users in that list are recent sign-ups or older sign-ups or literally random. Looking at the new members list I could find one or two who appeared in the moderators list but not all which suggests random. Would you agree with that?
The question I would like to ask is - can you replicate the act of creating a new user who ends up in that list? So - for example - does it happen to all users who sign up through the membership plugin? Were those in that list registered in a different way to those that are not? If you bypass the membership plugin and register someone manually through the WP admin UI - do they end up in that list?
