worth going to forum - toolbox - housekeeping and try clearing the auths cache...
if that fails, then we probably need a closer look with temp admin credentials if you are willing... if so, you would need to pm them to both yellow swordfish and myself... be sure to link to this topic so we know what its about...

Had a preliminary look. Currently both of your moderators still exist in other user groups as well. I think it would be a good idea to complete the set we discussed above before professing any further. So if you could remove them from other user groups and then see what they get it would be useful.

I removed one of my mods from the Members user group again, and again, still no Edit button in their post menu. Do you think it would make any difference if I clicked on the option for, "Users are limited to single usergroup membership"?
User Groups>Map Users to User Group.
I'm at a loss. Why is this such an issue?
I do not now why it is an issue for you but that is what we are trying to work out. I certainly have no problem on my test site making this work as expected so it is not a general problem.
Let's just go back to the beginning because I see you have not really followed our advice so far.
First you have two moderators. BOTH are in more than one user group. One is in 2 groups and the other in 3 groups. Just to keep things clean and tidy I would repeat my recommendation to limit these two users to just true moderators group.
Next - I see that all of the edit permissions for the 'moderator access' permission set are turned on. We did recommend that these should be limited to those you really want. Of the three 'post' editing permissions choose the one you want. Now I must ask say that it works for me without doing that but keep it clean and simple and give it a try.
If we can get past these two tests which we have been urging you to do and things are still not right then we can look elsewhere but this does have to be done one step at a time.

I have removed both mods from the Members user group. They are both members of a separate private user group. This private user group was set up specifically so that a group of members can have a place to interact without being bothered by others. The two mods were set up to ensure everyone in the private user group plays nice. That being said, the mods are each part of two user groups, Moderators, and the private user group that I've titled on the back end. Is this okay?
Of the three 'post' editing permissions, I have selected one option, "Can edit any post." This didn't have any effect on the mods that I have assigned, but when I created a Test User, assigned it with mod permissions and added it to the private user group, it can edit older posts. No idea how, or why this is the case given that their credentials are set up the same as the other mods in Manage Admins.
Any ideas?
the reason Andy asked about testing with users not in 2 usergroups is that when a user is in multiple usergroups on the same forum, the 'best' permission wins out... in this case, its not clear what the best permission is.... would still like to see that test... even it temporary...
not sure I understand what you think you will get with a second, what you call private usergroup on the same forum where they are moderators will buy them??? really nothing... it would be more useful when used on a different, private forum...

I should clarify. I created a separate private forum. Then I created a separate user group. Only members who are part of this private user group have access to the threads within the private forum.
I assigned mod permissions to two of the members who are part of the private user group with access to the private forum.
So, these two mods are members of the private user group and members of the moderator user group.
If I remove them from one or the other, it would negate the arrangement entirely. Would you agree?
you are mixing terms... usergroups are not private or public... they are just a collection of users...
you assign a usergroup and a permission set to a forum... that defines who can access a forum (and using your terms, whether a private forum or not)...
if you assigned the usergroup assigned to the private forum, then one would assume the moderator usergroup was not also assigned to the private forum since they would have already had membership....
the whole question from the start was: does any users have multiple memberships on the single forum where they are trying to edit...
but I hope to stop by myself later this evening and take a look...
