I created a user group. I then added members to that user group. I then allowed only that user group to have access to the private forum, which I created.

The two mods I have are members of that user group. By definition, they are also members of the moderator user group.

Now I'm getting confused...

My mods can't edit their posts. I have set their permissions so that they can edit any posts. They still can't edit posts.

perhaps you need to review this:  http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ng-access/

you didnt answer my question about which forum...

the only one you may have issue with is Fantasy Sports...

you have the collectors usergroup with standard permissions and you have moderators usergroup with moderator permission...

do you not see how that is conflicting if the moderator users are in both usergroups?  is it needed to be like that?  are the collectors usergroup users also in the members usergroup?

Any, all. I just want them to be able to edit their posts even after replies are submitted.

I created a TestUser to see if I could recreate this problem but couldn't. My TestUser, assigned with the same permissions as my mods, CAN in fact edit their posts even after someone replies to them.

This is what I don't understand...

The collectors user group are in the members user group. I need my mods to also be in the collectors user group. If I take them out, they won't have access to the collectors user group, which defeats the whole purpose of having mods in the first place.

As I said, I created a TestUser with the exact same permissions and that works out fine... they can edit their posts even after someone replies. My TestUser is part of both groups, the collectors group, and the moderator group.

have you personally tried with the moderator user?  you have two defined...  hawaiiainlance and pootshawn...  perhaps you need to borrow those user credentials and try yourself and ensure...  especially if the testuser account you created is working fine...

I did look through the code and dont really think there is a conflict anyways with the way you have the delete permissions set up...

you didnt really answer the question about the fantasy sports forum...  why is the collectors usergroup attached to that forum... its not the private one...  are those users in or not in the members group...  only talking about one specific forum here...

I have already reached out to one of the mods with a request to access their account using their login credentials. I'll circle back when I am able to.

It's kinda too bad this this is such a problem...

its not confirmed a problem yet really... not trying to be cute, but circumstantial at the moment... you tried it with similar user... we tried it with many test users...  all have worked fine...  need to really see it with affected user...

and you already said you cleared the auths cache on forum - tools - housekeeping...  which makes sure there is no incorrect auths caching going on...

How can I tell if they are attached?

The collectors user group is only set up to have access to the private forum. The fantasy sports forum is just another public forum. No connection to the private forum or the collectors user group other than members of the collectors user group can access the fantasy sports forum if they want to.
