Using v.5.3

I have been setting up user groups so I can restrict access to certain forums. Every time I add a user to a user group, they show up double when I am looking at the list to also add them to a second user group.

Is this a bug, or is there a reason for the multiple listings of a user? If I want to add a user to a group, which instance of them do I select??? See pic below:

its not a known bug...  I cannot replicate it nor has anyone else brought it up...

do you see duplicate users on forum - users - member information?  or on the wp users admin panel?

No, both user lists have just one instance of the user.

This is occurring on two different WP sites - both are WP Multisite, if that is relevant, hosted on a Linux Slackware Apache 2 server.

Using different themes on the two sites - one is Sterling and the other is Buddy Press Social from WPMU.

The other thing I noticed during Simple.Press install is that the installation is still looking for blog.dir in the multisite installs, even though WP stopped using that a while back, so the paths have to be edited to appropriate directories under sp-resources.

they only stopped using it for new installs... old installs still use blogs.dir - there was no migration away from it (not the best decision on their part imho)...  so other than a bit of oddity its not realy germane to this... we have an open ticket to support it with or without blogs.dir...

this is in the admin, right?  so the wp theme shouldnt matter...  two sites, eh?  quite odd as its not happening (or at least not reported) to our many other multisite users...

is this on the main network site or one of the network sites?

And a question from me....

Do you have things set up so that users can he in more than a single user group and are, in fact, the users you see twice in more than one user group?

This is on subsites.

Yes, the user can be in more than one group. e.g. Everyone is a "member", two are also "moderators" and people sit on various committees that give them access to forums. Some are on more than one committee, etc.

The display of multiple occurrences varies depending on which forum you are wanting to add to. A person might be listed once in one forum add dialog box, twice in another, and three times in another. Very confusing. For example, see pix below:

are the users on the network sites members on more than one network site?   and are you running kind of plugin that alters the wp way of users working on multisite?  ie giving them membership and roles on all sites..

shouldnt matter, but I will try to do some testing on a network site this weekend...  Normal testing is just on the main site...

And.... on the other question... is it possible for you to make any judgement on whether the users you see listed twice ARE those users in more than one user group? I asked because the database query that drives that list was changed in 5.3.0 and simplified but it might be that it is letting in duplicates under this scenario.

I will open a ticket to get it checked anyway just in case. It is worth stating that it is still safe to use the tool - both entries to a user reflect the same user data. But I will check into the query today.

Yes - I can confirm that to be the issue. A nuisance but it is harmless. It will be fixed in the next update.
