The last one Andy recommended removing was the registration redirect, although I'd remove any that you're having trouble with. You can always put them back in easily enough.

Thanks for clarifying, I'm testing this now.

Specifically I was suggesting removal of the one you were having the problem with. The one in the email.

Update. I've had my programmer look at this. The registration email is now redirecting to the login page (it should redirect to page asking user to create a pw). This is not perfect but it works.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I'm getting complaints from people saying they can't log into the forum.

I tried it myself it is complicated because the redirect after registration is back to the forum page and the email that is sent asks for the password to be entered but then when you enter a password it says password invalid. You then have to press on 'lost password'.

Isn't there a way of making this much easier?

Can't we just remove the need for a password and have people log in with just a username? or is this likely to cause WP security issues?

The first thing to make clear is that nobody logs into the forum. They log into your website. You run WordPress and WordPress controls everything to do with registration and login/logout. Simple:Press is just a component that works within WordPress.

As I have said somewhere above - we simply included a login form as a courtesy for any user who did not already show one. You will note we do NOT include a registration form - this is nothing to do with the forum.

If a user has a user name and a password - and yes - WordPress requires both - then how this is requested is up to the site owner  i.e. you. All the login form that we provide does is utilise core WordPress code. We do nothing - just display a standard WP form.

After all that I don't know what to say that can help you. We have many, many users who DO make use of the built in logon form and they use it without any problem. I am, perhaps, curious as to why you would redirect people after registering to the forum page. I would have expected you to redirect them to your home page but that, of course, is your choice. It just sounds to me like you might be better off bypassing the entire SP redirections as you seem to have problems getting them as you want them. I did suggest removing the registration one above, but I have no idea whether you did or not as you did not tell us.

The redirect after registration should go back to the homepage. Agreed.

At the moment the email people receive seems to be confusing them. It sends them to a page where they then need to enter a password which they haven't got. See screenshot.

Can't this be simplified in some way? Either send them directly to the page to create the password or give them a password?
