When an administrator is creating a new forum topic or post, I believe there should be options that appear at the bottom near the submit post button - options such as lock the topic, pin the topic, and edit the topic timestamp, but we don't see those. What can we do to make them appear for admins?

By 'administrator' do you mean an SP forum 'Admin' or a WordPress 'administrator' as these are not the same thing and the WP administrator - if not also an SP admin - will need permissions setting.

Sorry on not being clear - I meant an SP forum Admin, who should have all the permissions. (I did check to make sure, and yes, definitely forum Admin!)

do you have a screenshot?  have you expanded the options button like here?

which sp theme are you using?

What do you have for integrated toolbar option on forum - options - general display settings?  Typically, would recommend the option be selected to use the integrated toolbar...

I'm using the Reboot theme, and also using the integrated toolbar option.

For screenshots, filename Capture (first screenshot) shows the options I see when attempting to edit an existing topic - the lock, pin, etc options aren't there.  Capture 2 (second screenshot) shows the options I see on a brand-new topic.

I've also noticed that I can't activate the File Uploader with Plupload plugin - it gives me an Invalid Database Query error message. The error log shows the following:

Let me know what you can figure out, and thanks for your help!

OPTIONS:

So I am somewhat confused. Your screenshots show the very options that you stated in your first post were not shown. So perhaps I have misunderstood your issue. Can you explain the actual problem please?

ATTACHMENTS:

The error message shows that a table required by the uploader failed to be created. Unusual but worth checking you do have permission to create new tables and nothing has changed since the SP core plugin was installed.

If this is a new and recent install and there are no attachments in any of the posts then the first thing I would do would be to uninstall the SP file uploader plugin and then install it again. It is the install process that creates - or should create - the necessary db entries. If this is not the case then come back and we can work an alternative method.

I agree, it's confusing! Let me try to clear that up:

Options:

When an admin creates a brand-new post or topic, options do appear.

When an admin tries to edit an existing post or topic, options do not appear.

This means that if an admin adds a new post, publishes it, and then realizes they forgot to lock and pin it, they can't do anything about that. They have to delete the post and start over.

Does that help?

You mentioned: Worth checking you do have permission to create new tables and nothing has changed since the SP core plugin was installed.

It's a brand-new site, with a brand-new install, so nothing has changed.

By permissions to create tables, I see no reason I wouldn't have them, but where would I double-check that?

You mentioned: If this is a new and recent install and there are no attachments in any of the posts...

Correct, this is a new and recent install, with no attachments in any posts.

You mentioned: the first thing I would do would be to uninstall the SP file uploader plugin and then install it again. It is the install process that creates – or should create – the necessary db entries.

Tried that twice. No juice, sadly.

(Thanks for your help, by the way; I fully realize it can sometimes be challenging to figure out what's up when you don't have the site in front of you to tinker with!)

OPTIONS:

What you see is exactly how it should be for an edit operation. Changing pin/lock status etc., becomes the task of the forum tools once a post is saved. The forum toolset in Reboot is on the mini-toolbar at the top of each post just to the right of the date and time.

ATTACHMENTS:

Most odd. I can not think of any reason why the table would fail to be created. And certainly this is not a reported problem up until now. Are you comfortable looking at the database tables (probably in phpMyAdmin which is available in most hosting control panels)? If so - can you firstly double check if the 'wp_sfpostattachments' table exists? You need to use your own table prefix of course. And see if there is anything in the error log to suggest a failure to create.

And assuming you are OK in the database - I can give you a script to run to creates the table...

But it would be both nice and useful to try and get to the bottom of the failure.

Oh, really?  That's kind of interesting, because I have another Simplepress forum using Reboot that I've been using for years, and the options have always been on the bottom, even during post editing. (Double-checked it just now, and yes, that's still the way it is.)

That said, I'll just adapt methods for the new forum. Upper forum toolset it is, and thank you very much for pointing me to that!

Attachments:

I'm not very knowledgeable, but fairly able and willing to Google how-to instructions, which I just did on tables. I can confirm that 'wp_sfpostattachments' does NOT exist.

I double-checked error logs on the forum just now, and the following screenshots include everything I see in the error log:

We use Reboot here and you can check the options for yourself. There is no code to deal with option setting in the save edited post routines so I have no idea why you should see them or be able to use them.

The first error is interesting as it states that you also have a folder missing (forum-custom-icons) so let's check that next. Go to the forum admin > Integration > Storage Locations... Are any folders marked as missing or unavailable?
