Not able to upload an Avatar

I'm also having this same problem, and I have permissions set to allow avatar uploads.

when I try to upload a new avatar this is the error message I get:

Sorry, the avatar file exceeds the maximum allowed size

Yet the avatar is 50x50px  - very small.

Any suggestions?

that size is not referring to the height and width, but the file size in bytes...  the setting is on forum - profiles - avatars... what is the file size compared to that you are trying to upload???
