I had the admin bar plugin deactivated. Since I don't use the queue stuff. If you are a member, ie registered, you can post anything without approval. If you are a guest you can read only.

Turning on the admin bar made it show me the two lines.

Admin Queue Posts
There are no new forum posts

So basically it appears that I need to activate that plug-in just to see new posts in the dashboard.

hmmm... okay, I will check... if admin bar deactivated, it should revert back to user post list vs admin queue...

the admin bar features a whole lot more than just approval... basically, it tells admins/mods what posts have never been addressed in forum... but no worries there 😉

hmmm...  appears I was wrong...

If no admin bar plugin... no dashboard queue or unread posts at all...

will need to evaluate if that's what we really want...  but its the same as before, I think... admin queue enabled to get anything in dashboard...  we tried to expand it in 5.0 for non admins, but still requires the plugin...

will get back with you...

There is also an issue on the link when it does show a new post.

This is how it reads:

There is 1 new post in the forum topic:    How can I get true 5.1 surround sound with Slingbox Pro-HD using browser based or any other player???

Which is pointing to:

Ηttp://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/forum/general-sling-box-discussions/#p5037

But should point to

Ηttp://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/forum/general-sling-box-discussions/problem-with-post-edit-buttonow-can-i-get-true-5-1-surround-sound-with-slingbox-pro-hd-using-browser-based-or-any-other-player/#p5037

getting back on the original thing...  the only thing that is display is the admin queue...  so to get latest posts in the dashboard, you have to have the admin bar plugin active...  no admin bar plugin, no recent posts in the dashboard...

I will open a ticket and take a look at the actual url that is generated...  I know this was tested so a bit confused...  perhaps it has to do with not being on the first page...  anyways, thanks for heads up...

Using the latest SVN update I saw new posts in WP dashboard. Went and read all new posts & now forum shows no new posts.

Going back to the WP dashboard it showed the same posts as new. Double checked and went to the forum and it again said no new posts.

If I turn off the admin bar I see nothing shown at all in the new post spot.

So it appears that even though the forum shows no new posts the dashboard continues to say there are new ones.

OK - firstly I assume this is as a forum admin. I can not replicate this at all. So can we recap? The list of posts in the WP dashboard should echo the same number and posts in the admin bar at the top - which should also all show up when it is opened. Are you saying that this is NOT the case?

This is what used to be called the 'queue' - is now tentatively called the 'postbag' - and any suggestions for a good name are welcomed! Posts in the 'postbag' will only be removed when they are answered or explicitly marked as read. Dont confuse this with your personal/user level list of new posts...

If I turn off the admin bar I see nothing shown at all in the new post spot.

Correct. If you are not using the admin bar there is no postbag so nothing is shown.

So it appears that even though the forum shows no new posts the dashboard continues to say there are new ones.

See above...

OK, recap. wink

This is a forum admin (me)

Admin bar plug in activated.

Admins - Your Admin Options > Display the Simple:Press admin bar: Turned off

I see this in WP Dashboard

Image Enlarger

Go to forum and I see this.

Image Enlarger

Turn on display of admin bar

Image Enlarger

Use this to mark all as read.

Image Enlarger

Still shows 2 topics unread even after page reload.

Use the admin bar and view and mark both posts as read.

Image Enlarger

Now admin bar shows Zero unread. Reload page and the right side now shows '0 topics with unread posts' which is correct and there are no new posts shown in the WP dashboard.

Hope that helps.

I don't follow the comment 'Use this to mark all as read'. Oh - you mean from the personal list? That will NOT remove them from the admins postbag list. Your personal list and the admins list are not connected (except when a post needs moderating)

Ok, I understand what you mean on the personal list and admin list.

So to break it down.

Admin Plugin activated, Show Admin Bar off and there are 2 new posts.

Shows 2 new posts in WP dashboard and if I read them normally in the forum it will allways say there are 2 new posts in the WP dashboard.

The only way to get it to reset to 0 is to turn on showing me the admin bar then use it to view and mark as read.
