 I seem to be experiancing a permissions problem. Everytime I try and upload a theme or a plugn I get "Unable to locate needed folder". When I check permissions under "Storage Locations", everything comes back as Found and Writable.

I've tried uploading with both Safari and IE9.

Running:

Operating System: Linux, CentOS 6.2

Is the system Virtual Machine? Yes.

Hypervisor=XenServer 6.x

I'm using

type permalinks in WP.

Thanks!

Could you check the UID and GUID on the sp-resources folder? It is rare but it has been known for a server to create the folders SP uses with the correct read/write permissions but for a more restrictive user and as far as I am aware the php calls to check if a folder is writable seems to miss this aspect.

Most decent ftp clients will usually inform you of the user and group names a folder belongs to - or most File Manager applications in server control panels like cPanel. Perhaps you couild take a look - they need to be set the same as those of the parent wp-content folder.

Thank you for taking time to reply.

I've made sure the UID and GUID are set the same as the parent. It was different.

I gave it a shot and still the same problem. I even changed the permissions to -777. Still no luck.

I then changed the ownership of User and Group on everthing to "root". ( No need to worry about security yet, it's internal to our company and not reachable via the internet).  Still the same problem. Would you advise a complete re-install at this point?

thks!

no, I dont think so... what uid and gid did you change?  it would have to be sp-resources and any subdirectories within there...

if that still doesnt work, I would just remove the sp-resources directory and all contents and then try rebuilding it by hand...  you may want to grab a copy of any sp themes or sp plugins (or other folders) you are using or reupload them after recreating the sp-resources dir and the subdirs...
