Hi, is there a way to prevent individual members from using the PM system?

of course... there is a permission 'Can use the private messaging system'... Only give the permission to usergroups (ie users) that you want to be able to PM...

Got it, thank you. Is it also possible to monitor what certain users are putting in private posts to prevent abuse?

well, as the name implies, they are private... so no UI for viewing users private messages... if you feel you must review them, you will need to do so in the database on your server...

if the users would forward you the pm, you could get the message id and easily look it up in the db...
