Your kindness is appreciated on my 1st post to the forum. Client is kinda freaking out on me as I have not been able to address this on my own without YOUR HELP. I thought I would just be helping to create usernames & passwords and did not expect to be "expert" tech support, but here we are!

Issue #1 -

My client has noticed that, while their forum is password protected, personal information is being revealed on Google, such as top posters, members currently online, recent posters, and even shows the page name for personal forum posts!

They are using the "latest version of WordPress" and Simple:Press version 5.2.2 is installed.

The client doesn't necessarily want to be hidden from search engines, just the information behind the password protected forum.

Thanks so much for your help!

Tim

Well, may have found the issue. At the bottom of the Forum's "edit page" the tick box for "Do you want this page to be indexed by search engines?" was set to "Yes".  So let's see if "No" fixes the situation.  This should have been done when the site was built, but alas, here we are.  Better late than never, I guess.

If anyone else has additional suggestions, they are certainly welcomed!

well, that wp option will merely suggest to bots to not crawl the site...  if wont control whether or not they can actually view the site...

If forum information is visible to google, that means that either the page is not protected as you think, or it was not always protected, ie during setup, and google crawled for some info...

also worth noting that simple press does provide the ability to password protect your forum... so I assume you mean you are protecting the wp page itself with a password...  not sure why since you can just use simple pres permissions to control who can view the forum - a lot easier than requiring users to remember two passwords, but hey, your choice... ;)

Thanks for replying Mr Papa.

Well, the users do only have one Log-In u/n & p/w.

So, maybe I am somewhat confused between what is Word Press and what is Simple Press.  (Again, I did not build the site.)

thanks

To put it simply - WordPress is the backbone of the site. It controls the blog, the pages, the main look and feel and it controls the users, their registration and login, logout etc.
Simple:Press is just a WP plugin - an extension - that sits on top and provides a forum within a WordPress page. At it's most basic, you could actually view ot as WordPress 'content'.

a user logging in with their username and password is different than a password protected page... all users have to do the former... the latter is an option in wp to add another password to the specific page...

Thanks Yellow Swordfish. That helps.

Mr Papa, So, I suppose I do not have a password protected page, other than the standard user log-in. Sorry for the incorrect info.

Well, hopefully the Forum details will no longer be found on google searches. If there are any other suggestions to ensure that, I'd love the knowledge from the experts.

No access to guests. A new user is setup by me (at the request of the client. )

okay, cool... just to be sure, I assume you tried visiting as a guest to verify you could not see forum info?  You may still, if wanted, turn of the stats at the bottom for guests too...
