Great! Thank you so much for the help. That'll already help a lot.

Another message didn't make it. Incidentally from same user. Was just sent but never reached the recipient hence isn't showing in her thread either.

Again, no error log entry. No error reported in the server log either. The message itself was plain, nothing out of the ordinary.

What's the logic behind sending PMs? At what point is a row added to sfpmrecipients? Perhaps after the email is triggered? I am asking because we use a few plugins that trigger emails such a newsletter plugin and a mailing form. The newsletter plugin has caused issues with other plugins in the past that trigger emails. Just wondering.

I will check the code but I am 99.9% sure that the database save will all be done and dusted before emails are processed. That will usually be the last thing.

Curious that it is the same user and one has to wonder if that has any significance. First obvious question - has it been the same user every time?

Unfortunately no, this is the third user reporting it, but the first who this has happened to twice. There could still be some significance if it's just those three and no more. I'll see if we get any more reports.

I hope it's OK to piggyback this conversation. I'm a long-time S:P user and recent support forum member, and I've been looking for solutions to problems I've been having.

A number of my users have also reported that PMs have been going missing. Many users have been affected, including myself. http://www.beatlesbible.com/fo.....4/#p102027

I'm happy to provide any error logs that may be useful, if you tell me precisely what's needed.

No problem. It seems to happen randomly and affects a number of people. Here are some reports from different users on my forum, all from the link in my previous post:

the PM notifications are a mess for me, the numbers of unread that show up are fluctuating widely with little relation to what is actually there. If anyone has sent me a PM and i haven't replied its because i have no idea what is old, new, outstanding or replied to. Even when i click mark all read it comes back with 1, 2 or 3 unread. It's currently saying 5, a minute or two ago it was 1 yet nothing is new.

Speaking of PM wonkiness, I can only see x's posts in every PM thread I have with him. It used to be just one of the threads. Now it is all of them.

Over the past week or so I've sent a couple of PMs that look like they haven't been seen, including "test" PMs. Either my PMs are on the blink or everyone's ignoring me :/ Also when I reply to an old PM topic it doesn't shoot up to the top of the list like it used to, it just stays at its current position (third, fourth etc.) So yeah if anyone is wondering why I didn't PM them back- I did :)

I think its happening to everyone and has been for a while. The inbox notification is totally knackered for me, showing numbers that have no resemblance to reality.

I don't know if this is the same problem that was reported earlier or something different. As I said, I'm happy to provide any server info that might help troubleshoot this.
