Question about WP updater

Does the updater only update files that have been changed since the previous version? I have one core file that I have had to modify outside of my theme, namely 'sp-group-view-functions.php'. Will it be overwritten if I upgrade from 5.0 to 5.0.3?

If I save the file and then upload it after upgrade will it still work with 5.0.3 or will I have to do a code compare?

Regards

Conrad

The WP updater currently replaces all code. It removes the current code first. The have been talking about making it a changed file only update at some stage but it is not with us yet.

Your problem may come if we also need to make changes to the same file(s) so yes - a compare would be sensible practice. Many editors can do this easily and some are mentioned in this codex article - http://codex-simple-press.com/.....p-to-date/

OK thanks for the speedy response. I use notepad ++ which has a compare plugin so no big deal. Well I suppose that I'll push the button for the first time then eek
