Setup questions - root font size, auto notify, default search behavior....

I'm customizing SimplePress to work for my site and have several questions I've come across.

  1. How do I change the root font-size for Reboot Child Theme?  The font is too small in general and would like to change the root size.  By the way not looking to use the text resize plugin you offer.
  2. How can I set up the forum so that all users receive notifications to replies to THEIR OWN posts, by default.  I think I did this but want to make sure, can you go over the steps.  I noticed there's a setting regarding this in the profile settings page that the user can trigger, I guess this is an option for the user.  But by default I would like users to receive notifications.
  3. I logged in as another dummy user to test out the plugin and noticed in the forum header there's only the main Profile button that appears.  What's missing is the rest of the row, like Watching and Subscribed (when logged in as my regular user these are all there, just not for this test user).  Any idea why these two buttons are not showing up for my test user?
  4. When using the Search bar from the forum header is there a way to set it to search in the current forum that the user is in, instead of all forums.  (Not looking at using the advanced search, just to have the search bar behave this way by default.)
  5. Is there a way to load a simple text editor or BBCode editor for the signature page?  Trying to limit what users can enter in the signature box.  I mean do they really need the embed video, add list formatting, headings, etc?  Just trying to keep it simple.
  6. Trying to figure out the difference between Subscribing to vs. Watching a post.  Could you shed some light on this please.

I like SimplePress so far.

Great support!

Keep up the good work guys.

  1. The base font size is set at 100% of whatever the container your WordPress theme has set for the content area. There are several ways you can change this but the easiest is probably to use the forum admin > Themes > Custom CSS - and set a font-size rule against the main forum container which is named #spMainContainer.
If this doesn't work as you would want then we can try this another way.
  2. You will need the subscriptions plugin and it will need setting up for this. The best way is to point you to the documentation that explains all you need to know: https://simple-press.com/docum.....criptions/
  3. You need to set the correct permissions. That is covered in the above document.
  4. You need to copy the two spHead.php templates from their respective desktop and mobile folders in the main Reboot theme into the same folders in your child theme. The edit them.  You will see a section named 'Search FORM - OBJECT DEFINITION'. The very last parameter has to be changed as per the comment beside it. Regardless of this it will always use 'all Forums' when on the group view page or any other view that is not forum specific.
  5. This was covered in your other topic.
  6. My own personal opinion is that we mis-named the Watches plugin. Just think of it as Bookmarks instead. So - performs the same task as Subscriptions except (a) users need to explicitly add a watch; (b) it does not send out emails; (c) it is for topics only - there is no watch on a whole forum as there can be with the big brother subscriptions.

Which I think covers it all. Now we have come this far perhaps I can respectfully ask you to remove the silly signature - your point has been made.

  1.  Font-size works by changing it in #spMainContainer, thanks!
  2. I've looked through the documentation but not sure what this option does.
Components > Subscriptions > For forum subscriptions, default subscriptions to only new topics

Will try out and look into the other items soon.

#2... when set, for forum subscriptions, you will only send notifications for new topics - not for new replies to an existing topic...

Ohh ok.  With this option set when a user subscribes to a forum (not a topic)  they will only get a notification for new topics in that forum, not all the replies for that topic topic.

with that option set, correct... if you want the forum subscription to be for any post in the forum, simply dont set it...  or with it set, they could still subscribe to interesting topics...

basically, its a way for people to know about new topics they can review... if interested, they would subscribe to the specific topic for updates...
