Well he first rule is to not make custom changes to anything we supply but always make a copy. So – if you are wanting to make sweeping changes to templates, for example, then make a copy of the theme to make it uniquely yours and then it will be safe from updating. We should have a codex article up on that pretty soon now.

If you just want to make minor changes to an overlay the same applies. Make a copy of the overlay you want to change and make it uniquely yours.

The WP Updater will currently wipe the entire folder and replace it with an updated version. This is a constraint of the updater. The WP team have plans to change this so that we can update individual components but they have not put this in place so we have to use what we have got.

So if you are making changes to one of the themes we supply you need to make it safe from updating so rather than use the WP updater it is better to download it from our site and update it manually.

I’m not really sure there is much more we can do to be honest. We always advise people NOT to customise our supplied themes but we can not exactly force them to do so!

This morning I began translating the Admin side.  When I visited the Profile page with the 4 tabs Profile, Options, Usergroups and Permissions on the Fron End I looked where those where and found them in Admin.  So for now the only strings I translated are in the Profil tab and they are :

Overview

Edit Profile

Edit Identities

Edit Avatar

Edit Signature

Account Settings

I uploaded the spa-fr_FR.mo file just like I did with sp-fr_FR.mo file but the translations do not show up.  Could it be also caused by the fact that you have updated the po but I haven’t downloaded latest svn (or received the update)?  If so then I will wait for all the updates you should be pushing today.

have you looked on forum – profiles – tabs and menus?  they were intended to be translated there…  allows more flexibility in naming since they are not in a template tag…

what did you update? you can always go to forum – toolbox – housekeeping and use the restore profile tabs and menus to their default state…

please try one at a time and see what happens… if so, would like to know what entries were made…

Ok I found the bug.  The use of the apostrophe in any Tab name or Menu name will make that happen.  In French we use it a bit more.  When fixed, please let me know which file in svn have the fix and I’ll go grab it.

Also if I may do a suggestion, you told me how to restore the Tabs an Menus so I clicked the button and I was expecting a confirmation box like “Are you sure” but no, it did not happen.  I must admit if all those reset buttons act like this then this particular place should be highligted with a highly visible warning at the top saying that pressing any reset button will do the reset right away without any other steps.

Thank you for the adoption of the team. I have translated the Default theme, as well as a few plugins and Front End. Partially translated (by 38 %) administration panels – but here it is with her encounter a problem – translation is not always overlap (and many of where).

Translated only the admin menu and buttons(several), but not the panels.

Sorry – I realise it is a language difficulty but I am not sure what you mean. Can you give me more detail please?
