In the simple press admin panel I get these alerts:

1) On the Either or both of the theme CSS file or color Overlay file from the selected theme is missing.

…and above that:

2) Access denied – ahah

I've tried the theme in the default storage location as well as within the plugin (to keep the directory structure clean and consistent), but both seem to have this issue.

The first error is absolutely to do with Simple:Press not finding the folder correctly. Make sure you haven't got wp-content/forum-themes/templates/

You should have wp-content/forum-themes/default etc. etc.

edit: and on 2) I've also seen this pop up, doesn't seem to have stopped anything tho

between this and the other thread we have hopefully sorted out your location issues.

if you got the 'Access Denied - ahah' in the forum admin then this is not an error. WP has a habit of locking you out after a certain amount of inactivity on the same window. You need to reload the forum admin panels from the WP menu.

We have an open ticket on this to see if (a) we can work around this annoyance and (b) if nothing else do something about the message!
