On issue 1 then I think you need to perhaps check the translation strings in the PO file. Do any of them have, for example, a single or double quote mark that should not be there? I do not know if that would do it but it seems like a possibility.
You might also like to take that PO file and try compiling the MO using poEdit. That should report any errors the compiler encounters.
As to issue 2 - have you installed the Private Messaging SP plugin?
For 3 then if you are using one of our themes with overlays then you will need to edit the overlay file (in the /styles/overlays folder of the SP theme) and locate the $mainFontSize value near the top of the file. It is probably set to 100%. Change it to your preference.
