Turning off "first posts are subject to administrator approval before being displayed" message

Hi. In a bid to keep track of spam registrations I've turned off "Can bypass first post moderation" in the permission sets.

Now, all standard users see the following message whenever they post a message: "NOTE: first posts are subject to administrator approval before being displayed".

Is it possible to make this message expire after a certain time, eg once that person has posted or been approved? It seems unnecessary to always have it on show, especially for long-standing members.

All users are getting the message? When you say you have turned it off in the permission sets, have you turned it off in all of them? Roughly what user groups / permissions do you have set up?

All standard (non-mod/admin) members are seeing the message.

I haven't got any unusual permission sets, just the default ones I think. I've turned "Can bypass first post moderation" off for people in the standard and full access groups. Everyone in those groups sees the message every time they post.

Might seem like a bit of a basic one, so not meaning to be patronising, but when you say 'turned off', do you mean it was a green radio button, and after turning it off it's now grey?

Have to cover all bases!

Yes, the button is now grey in both those permission sets.

OK.. Well for starters, the button being grey means that the check is active. As it's worded, when the button is green (activated) then the user can bypass the first post moderation.

You will want the button green (active) in order to bypass the first post moderation check..

I am confused however, are you looking to activate the first post mod check on new users, so you can check all first posts to keep track of spam? or are you looking to turn the first post mod check off for everybody (green)

I'm not trying to let users bypass first post moderation. I understand the wording.

I don't know why you're confused. As I mentioned in my first post, all I want is to not have a permanent message for standard users saying “NOTE: first posts are subject to administrator approval before being displayed” before every single post.

I'm not sure how I can make that clearer.

Yep, probably because I misinterpreted your first post thinking that you wanted to turn off the post moderation for current users, but never mind.

So lets start again:

Firstly, obviously someone is going to need to approve these posts manually before the notice will disappear for the user, or are you saying that the posts are being approved and the notice re-appears?

if you are using the 'Admin Bar' plugin you should see 'Need Moderation' at the very top.

I don't have a problem with the approval process. I already use the admin bar, but it's not relevant to my question. I just want that warning message to not appear for users that have been using my forum for many months.

The message appears to all standard users regardless of how long they've been members. Logically it should only appear once, to *new* signups before their first post has been approved.

Is that clear enough now? I feel like I'm really struggling to get my message across here.

finally think it might be... took me multiple reads to finally get what you want...

in your sp theme, the spTopicView.php and spForunView.php template files, in the declaration for new topic and new post form, you will see that text defined...  change it to whatever you want...

as always, we strongly recommend you make your own theme or a child theme instead of editing ours directly to keep from losing changes on updates...
