We have a user who is trying to make a topic but it keeps giving him the error: "unable to save, no post content entered.". What he submitted to our support desk:

user: "I went through the steps for posting. After clicking on "Submit Topic", I get a message in pink shading at the bottom of the comment space, that reads "unable to save, no post content entered." Looking for your advice ."

I checked his user settings for posting and they were correct, also others have posted to that forum. I could not get it to replicate the same issue.

Why would this happen and what can I do to fix this?

To be frank I really do not know. If others can post successfully it only begs the question what is different about this user... That message is shown by a JavaScript routine that checks the post before it is sent to the server and it is literally looking for an empty post content being sent.

If he retries does it happen over and over again?

Thank You YS, I'm trying to work with this user right now going step-by-step and they were able to make a test post in a different Forum Group. Now we're trying another test to the Forum group where the post should go. At the moment I'm thinking it was user error but will verify if the second test is successful.

More clues. I walked him through the process and he was able to make a text post BUT when he tries to insert a link the link will not show.

Take a look at the pemission set the user is assigned to (in his User Group/against that forum) and check that the permission to create links in posts is turned on. Actually - he can do that from his Profile...

Okay, checked that and it is a green check mark so it is enabled. Could it be his browser? say if he was on an older version of IE?

What happens if you make a post with a link entered and formatted exactly the same as your user?

I had them send me their link and I pasted it into their post and it worked for me. So I'm thinking it's not user error because they were able to send me the link through the support ticket. Meaning if they could do that I feel certain they were pasting it into the forum edit field correctly. I do think something may be amiss with their browser or machine. They are not available right now but I've asked OS and browser version and am awaiting reply.

might be worth checking that the user has javascript enabled in the browser too...they should get a message if not, but worth a check...

browser type and version would be helpful so please let us know..

Okay here is their reply on the OS and browser:

"The browser I'm using is Internet Explorer and the operating system is Windows 7"

I'll have to ask again as they didn't give any actual version, but I think it rules out my theory that they are on old equipment as Windows 7 isn't super old.

I will ask them about javascript too.
