Maybe I misunderstood you because now I don't know what you mean? :)

In the "Members Usergroup" there are 31k members. The rest of my members (~145k) are listed as "Members Not Belonging To Any Usergroup" and therefore cannot view or post in the forum.

How can I get these members to be listed in the "Members Usergroup" when the map users to usergroup function doesn't work for me?

it seems to me there are two important questions... (1) why did these users get separated and (2) why does the mapping stop after so few users have been processed. And both really need to be got to the bottom of.

But - thinking more about getting these users into their proper home have you tried the 'Add Members' tool? It might take a little longer as you will probably need to batch them into manageable chunks but it should do it for you.

Unfortunately I cannot use the "add members" tool either, if I click on it just sits there forever loading and locks up mysql for the site so I have to restart the mysql server.

The process that locks it up looks like this:

Query 547 Copying to tmp table SELECT DISTINCT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS wp_sfmemberships.user_id, wp_sfmembers.display_name, wp_sfmember

Fixed mine. It's a new forum, so not a lot of users & easier to manage.

In the backend, the Users not belonging to a user group display was empty. Only the frontend shows some members duplicated in Members and Members not belonging to a usergroup.

Found a pattern in the 22 members, 11 of which had spuriously shown up on the frontend Members listing as not belonging to a usergroup; when they also appear in the members group. It was only users who had posted.

Because I'm using ranks, as soon as a person posted, they would trigger the New Member rank. However, the New Member group hadn't been created, so they went into limbo. I had thought that the Rank only changed the badge and that all were members. I created the usergroup and moved the members into it, thinking this would fix it. Nope. Then found that forum perms had to be set for the new group. Still didn't fix it. Then found that the user mapping had to be done after the fact to remap users already signed up. Once that took place, the frontend fell in line.

nice work.. did you also have the single membership option turned on?  if so, not much to do since existing ones get removed first...  but if not, it should have retained the old one too...

Well, ya know, I'd like to be able to provide that information. I seem to recall that it is not turned on. However, what with the confusing nature of the UI, its menus and all, I can't find where that setting is. I spend more time looking for screens that I know I've seen than actually working with them. I'll start another thread about UI issues, because it really does have room for improvement.

Sorry about that. The thread got hijacked and i think we both missed the post. It is annoying when that happens.

That is a pretty simplistic query. I assume it is creating a temp table because of the number of members but I see no reason why it should lock up the database. Either the db can create and work with temp tables or it can't so that is a bit odd.

OK - let's look at this in another way. Do you know you way around the database and SQL queries?
