Just updated to Version 5.3.4
and when I go to my forum page, I see the message: The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it.
It looks like my group permissions were changed with the upgrade?
Did the shortcode change? The forum is now displaying below the contents of a plugin that recommends additional pages on my site. It used to display above those recommended pages.

you didnt say which version you upgraded from....
the forum does not change permissions... however, a small number of users upgrading from 4.5 to 5.x have experienced an issue where the sfauths table gets messed up on the upgrade... if that fits you, you can go to forum - permissions - reset permissions and repair the permissions table.... you will have to reset up and custom permissions you had...
what shortcode are you referring to???

Sorry yes, upgraded from Version 4.4.5.
Ignore the shortcode question... my mind was off to the races on another issue (non-forum).
Resetting permissions did the trick. Thank you!

sure wish we could fix that lost permissions issue... but so non repeatable... folks have sent us their db before upgrade and it doesnt happen... some have reloaded the backed up db after it happened and tried the upgrade again and worked fine... almost random...

It turns out the forum is displaying UNDER our "shareholic" feed which displays at the bottom of every page (recommend page you "might also like") - except on our forum page. There, it's displaying above the forum.
Any suggestions?

under (as in layering)? do you mean below? think so...
on forum - toolbox - integration, try checking the strict wp api option...
