Support Forum
Hi Team
Without any changes to our settings, our WP Admins who moderate our forum are saying that when they try and edit a post they wrote, they are receiving the "Edit Failed - You Do Not Have Permission" error message.
And after trying to save, they are being logged out of WP.
So when they try and edit and save a post they get this: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMf.....4sdWvJIML0
And then they are logged out:

Admins are able to change the Topic Title, no problem, but after the change they are also being logged out of Wordpress.
Please advise.
Thanks, Graeme
what are the permissions they have on this forum? a screenshot from their profile would be nice...particularly interested in the creating ones...

When I try and look at the Users I get this error: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMe.....WDTV8BppGQ
Does this help: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMf.....d0MHmaBnKU ?

It's not an error. it means exactly what it says - Wordpress has timed out your security key (nonce) for the page you were using and you need to reload it.

@mr-papa was asking for their user profile - where they cn view their current permissions. As an admin you can see their forum profile and click on the permissions tab. We need to see what 'create' and 'edit' options you have set up for them.

Have you tried regenerating a new salt code?
This goes in your wp-config file.
- Doc ~ An old Fidonet SysOp. Just hanging out in cyberspace keeping up with tech.
Also you say wp admins. Are they simple press admins (not the same)? Have you given them a unique user group / permissions set that would slow them to edit posts?

When I try and see the User profile all I see is this: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMc.....9538P4XylU
Is that usual?

Yes, our "moderators" are just WP Admins. They have no unique user group. As you can see here: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMe.....rcSpzo1gTw
I did have server support look into something else and they said this:
I'm noticing some errors related to that in your log file:
[29-Aug-2016 17:50:34 America/Los_Angeles] WordPress database error Table 'wp_sfmembers' is marked as crashed and should be repaired for queryAlso an error related to some simplepress files:
[29-Aug-2016 17:50:34 America/Los_Angeles] PHP Warning - debug_backtrace() expects at most 1 parameter, 2 given - file: /simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-error.php - line: 43 - function: spHandleShutdown
Would any of this have something to do with my problem?
Please advise. Thank you.
could have... if you have db table issues, could cause a whole host of problems... quite easy to repair from phpmyadmin or other tool provided by your host...
what version of wp and sp? and also php?
based on your reply, not sure you understand how permissions work... a usergroup and permission set must be involved... your moderator usergroup has 0 members... you have to actually move in the users you want to be moderators into that usergroup... additionally, you have to assign that usergroup with a permission set to each forum to be applied... sorry, if you know this, but a bit of info on how controlling permissions work: https://simple-press.com/docum.....ng-access/

Can I add that this is most important:

Did your 'server support' repair the crashed table? I would hope so but you need to check. And also ask them to perform an optimise. These things do not repair and look after themselves....!
As I said on post #4 - we we're asking for the users forum profile. It is a button on the top of the forum page called 'profile'. You can open it for any user and edit it, And there is a tab marked permissions that will show you what you have allowed them to do for each form. You need to look at that and compare what you see listed as allowed and what you want them to be able to do. And then adjust as necessary if needed,
If they are not in a user group, then they may well be getting treated as guests.

Hi guys
So I had the database table restored, so no more issues or error logs on the server.
Then I tried to find this Wordpress Administrator of mine inside the forum so I could assign her to the Moderator Group.
But when I search for her, I can't find her anywhere: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMf.....kCd8ysNnt0
Her name is Hayley, and her WP Username is Hayley, and you can see her here inside WP Users: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMc.....ErmtJXQfLg
So went into her forum profile and see that the group she has been assigned to is Administrator, and in your documentation is says:
Please note that forum Administrators do NOT belong to a User Group and do NOT require permission being assigned to them. By their very nature, forum Admins are granted total and unrestricted access although their activities within the forum admin panels can be restricted
So surely she should be able to edit her own posts.
Checking her actual permissions shows this: https://www.evernote.com/l/AMf.....lbKTJG2Nn4
So why can't she edit her own posts?
Please advise. Thanks.
