Jamie, did you install it as a simple press plugin? and NOT a wp plugin? (see http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/plugins/plugin-basics/using-plugins/)
if so, then verify in wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins, the folder is called buddypress…
Yes, I realized that I was trying to upload it to WP plugins instead of SimplePress. Now it is working
But I have another problem: All avatars for all users on the forum look like Avatar of who ever is logged in. Please see the attachment.
Also it looks like time on the forum and activity page for buddy press doesn’t match. I posted a new topic and it showed up on activity page as it was posted 7 hours ago.
please tell me the settings for avatar you selected in the plugin? and then on forum – profiles – avatars, what do you have selected?
how does buddypress handle individual user timezones? I dont see a setting there… how does each user specify their timezone? my guess it that it doesnt let each user set a timezone and just gives everyone the same time… where as in the forum, we let each user set their timezone relative to the server time… if budypress doesnt do that, then our times may be off with not much we can do…
It looks like there is no time zones settings for individual user in BuddyPress (at least I didn’t find any). I think the time is what ever WordPress is set to. But I have WP and SimplePress both set to Los Angeles time and for some reason it is 7 hour off. As soon as I post a new topic on SimplePress, it shows up on BuddyPress activity page as it was posted 7 hours ago.

avatars… so you are using buddypress avatars and in a forum topic, every user shows as the logged in user rather than the poster? will do some more testing…
you say you have WP set to LA… can you explain that? do you mean you have your timezone in the sp profile set to LA? Is that really where the server and you both are?
hmmm… I cannot duplicate the avatar issue… weird, no one else has reported this… can some other beta users please make a test?
are you using any avatar plugins for wp or bp?
We are in Los Angeles, so most of our users, so we set it to LA.
No, we are not using any avatar plugins. I attached the list of the plugins we use.

okay, I think I can recreate the time issue… not sure about a fix – BP does everything in GMT… might be a simple conversion but with our user based times, might still be somewhat off…
but unable to duplicate the avatar issue at this point… this is version 0.9, right?
any other of the beta testers seeing that??
version updated to 0.91… download in the first post…
lets see if that fixes the buddypress time issue since it doesnt support time settings per user…
still trying to recreate the avatar issue…
I can’t get the new version to activate- Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in public_html/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/buddypress/sp-buddypress-plugin.php on line 189
Also, I am having a issue with avatars when I try to use bp avatars for sp, instead of showing the uploaded bp avatar in sp, it displays the default wp set avatar as if none was uploaded in bp.
