I did a quick screencast of it with a brand spanking new installation.

WP is straight outta the box with Simple Press 5 the only installed plugin.

okay thanks... only thing you did different was select the update on subsequent edits which I did not select... so will try again this weekend... but fear we might need Andy since he is the blog linking expert...

btw, I had a good laugh when you were in the wp admin and you went back to the front end just to select add new post from the admin bar instead of just clicking on it from the wp admin menu  wink  first thing I do is turn off that admin bar! cool

but you will probably be glad to hear that the admin bar now is in the admin too...  just like on the front end... and its the only admin bar at the top...  wp 3.3 that is...

Great, I'll move on to something new to test then 😉

I went to site really so you would see it was a Hello World install 😉 but I do love the admin bar, didn't like it in the beginning, but now that I've gotten used to it I love it. When you have a bad plugin and have to find broken posts and fix them... it makes it easy to hop back and forth too. cool

As I feared, even with you exact settings, I cannot duplicate that behaviour...  I get the link fine and just one topic...

So probably need to turn over to Andy since he knows the blog linking better than I...  he should return from vacation early next week...

Is this on a live server (ie web accessible)?  such that we might be able to get access to it if needed to see what is going on?

Also, did you say this was fresh install?  no other plugins?

No, it's not on a live install, although I can go ahead and try that as well. I did originally have it on a live server, then pulled it. Yes it was a fresh install, no other plugins, default theme.

Afraid that I am unable to currently replicate either of these issues.

Could you tell me what other WP plugins you have active please? And - if they are not that common, what it is they do?

Hello I am getting the same problem with my site. In the past I have had no problem with SPF and blog linking to topics and the opposite. However after just creating a blog post and selecting the create forum topic option, I have no forum topic link at the bottom of my blog post where they usually were. My old blogs do, but not my new ones. I just updated to the latest WP version 3.3.1 and still no luck. After playing with the SPF blog link settings, still no change. I also deactivated the last set of plugins I used since I made a blog post when everything was working fine, and they still did nothing. So now they are reactivated. Any solutions? I will look for a SPF plugin for blog linking???

I will need to ask a few questions first I think.

  1. A little confused by your last question - 'look for an SP plugin for blog linking'. Do you mean by that that you are using SP V5 but have NOT activated the SP Blog Linking plugin?
  2. Assuming you are using V5 and have the plugin active are they the latest versions? Does the WP Updater tell you that there are newer versions waiting?
  3. When  you say your old blog posts still show the link - just how old are these posts? The system has used the same method for displaying the link in blog posts for many years now so if it works for one it should work for all.

Let's start with those!

Ok well I just installed V5 today. I didn't seem to find the solution and couldn't be bothered when I noticed the SPF 5 is out. What I am having trouble with right now is finding out how to upload plugins like the SP plugin for Blog Linking. I tried manually doing so into the resources folder and still nothing appears under the plugins tab in the forum settings section...?? Any advise on how to install plugins for me. It won't allow me to do so via wordpress, I thought I'd give that a try but no luck there either. I do not see a link to upload simple press plugins within the plugins tab of the simple press forum settings for V5.
