Thanks for looking into this.
I tried changing the order to oldest first and the order does change but not as expected. In the example I looked at, I would have expected the first message to be at the top of the first page but it actually appears at the top of the second page. Sorted, newest first, it appears at the bottom of the second page.
In addition, as mentioned earlier, the PM inbox list appears to be sorted by date of 'first message in thread' order, so even if there is a new message the thread doesn't appear at the top of the list, it's still in the original position. This wouldn't be a problem in itself if there were a marker to show that the thread had a new message, as it is, unless you look at the dates of last message in all threads it's easy to miss a new message.
I just took a look at the error log and there are multiple security alert errors
'Nonce Security Alert
pm-manage: failed nonce check'
File attached.
nor have I been able to recreate... 🙁
I wonder if it might be possible to get an export of your db so we can see what is going on and debug? understand if that is not possible... wondering if something is corrupted (not physically but bad data) in the pm data..

well, unfortunately, we would need the whole database... even just the pm tables have integral relationships with other tables... be fair amount of work to grab just the numerous ones we would need (users for example)... and as I said, understood if you wouldnt want to do this...
if it does work for you, there is one thing you need to do first... we would need an account to be able to log in... this would be an account you are seeing the PM issues with... you could change the password, export the db, then change the password back to keep from revealing it... best to email the db to us at support at simple-press dot com... please include in the email, the username and password - or pass that along to us in a PM here...
none of the table info would go public - we do testing work like this on localhost machines...

Not in any way wishing to push you on this, it takes what it takes, but in case it helps I thought I would list the problems that have been reported to me regarding PM's on our system.
- PM's not sorted in chronological order
- Inbox list not sorted to latest on top
- Some Users report Messages/Posts missing/disappearing
- Some Users report no access to PM's through the inbox button
- Some Users report PM recipient autocomplete not working
- Some Users report not being able to add more than 2 recipients
Hope this is of some help.
database was received.... thanks... we have not had a chance to take a look at - its the holiday season...
but with your list here, there is something more at work... I guess I thought we were dealing with a sorting issue here (and we recently made a change for some improvement there - not released yet), but not sure we have any ideas on the rest of items... they are just not anything anyone else is encountering... or that can be replicated...
no access to pms through inbox, autocomplete and more than 2 recipients sound like much more local issues than a pm system problem itself... those are working everywhere except for you... so using your database certainly is not going to replicate those either... so maybe we need to focus on a couple of other things first...
one, lets make sure your db is in good shape... can you go to phpmyadmin and make sure all you db files are up? maybe do an optimize (and maybe a repair) on them just to be sure...
two, can you download another copy of the pm plugin and upload over your current one just to make sure no files are corrupted.. actually, belay that... I will email you the updated plugin just to see if that helps with the sorting... will send to the email address from which the database came from... just extract and upload via ftp over the top of current one...
three, we will look at your database and make sure the structure is right - at the start of this thread, you had missing tables, so still not convinced your database ever went through a major db upgrade that was done - although that was some time ago...
four, can you pm us a link to your site and credentials to log in as wp/sp admin?? you sent us some credentials for the database - will those work on the live site? for the items listed above, we need to see that on your site since it wont be replicable based on the database - they are primarily javascript issues... so we need to see those in action locally..

Just came back to add one more item to the list and saw your reply.
- Deleting a Thread from inside the Thread goes through all the motions bur the Thread remains. Deleting from the inbox list works OK.
The credentials with the DB will not work on the live Site.
I'll work through your list and get back to you.
Quite understand about time/holiday constraints! No problem.
Thanks again.
okay... updated test plugin emailed to you as well...
