I have been unable to get the plugin to connect. Outlook and gmail allow me to add the account using TLS/SSL and connect no problem. No authentication required. But no combination of settings will result in the plugin connecting. I am using email through my web hosting service on hostarmada.com. How do I get this working?

Hi:

Have you read the section in the documentation on HOST LIMITATIONS?  https://simple-press.com/docum.....-by-email/

Most issues start there because commercial hosts tend to block all email ports (even incoming ports) to prevent spam.

Thanks.

993 is open, but can't get it to connect on 993. I have WP Mail SMTP connecting through 993 with TLS/SSL, so that isn't the problem. I did get the plugin to connect on 143, but it's still not picking up the email. What's the next step?

Hi:

I'm not sure how you can be connection with WP MAIL SMTP to send emails on port 993.  Most mail servers use port 993 for INCOMING mail, not outgoing mail.  So, if WP MAIL SMTP is somehow able to use port 993 to send mail out then you're not going to be able to access incoming mail on that port.  Which means port 143 is your only option, assuming it's configured correctly for incoming mail (I'm worried about the server using 993 for outgoing mail which means that incoming mail might be misconfigured in general...)

Can you paste an image of how you've configured your ports in the Simple:Press settings to access incoming mail on port 143?

Also, there is an email log under FORUMS->TOOLBOX->EMAIL POST LOG - what messages are you seeing in there?

Thanks.

Sorry, brain wires crossed as I was thinking about port 993! I am sending from WP on 587 using TLS/SSL.

Settings for Post by email screenshot below. The password IS filled, just not posting it here. This is the ONLY configuration I've been able to get to connect. All others fail when testing.

So, testing is successful?  Are there any entries in FORUMS->TOOLBOX->EMAIL POST LOG?

There is nothing under the email log.

Are you sure you're getting a success message when you test the connection?  Some hosts do allow you to run the test but still block you when you try to get emails - but those should end up with errors in the email log.

Can you maybe create a video showing us the sequence you're running through to get a successful test?  Maybe we'll see something in the video that can help us troubleshoot some more.

Thanks.

I have simply entered the settings and clicked the test connection button. I have blocked the password for the recording, but it is there and saved. Screen recording below.

I did reach out to my hosting service who assures me all should be working on their end. So, an email comes in to the forum email address, and nothing happens. It doesn't show in the email inbox that the email was viewed or checked and it doesn't hit the forum itself.

Hi:

I noticed that you didn't click the "Update Email Options" button before testing. Did I miss that since it went by so fast?  I'm wondering if the test is being run on old data that is already saved and not on the new data you're entering.  The data has to be saved before testing.

Regardless whatever is already saved is passing the test.  Which means that something else is blocking the collection of data or the test is a false positive.  (I've never seen a false positive test before though.)

I suspect that the only way to get any more progress on this would be some hands on troubleshooting on your site - not something we can support in the forum though.

Thanks.
