Support Forum
Hi
I've recently installed the Subscription plugin on to my forum. A couple of quick questions,
1) If set to send out daily updates to subscribers - at what time is that sent and can that time be adjusted?
2) Is it possible to have a setting so that subscribers of certain topics recent email updates as soon as there is a new post?
3) Same question as 2) where the answer may be no - Is there another solution that would allow me to do this?
Thanks
Jon
- Now that;'s a jolly good question and one I do not know the answer to although I suspect it will be daily from the time the option was turned on. i also suspect that this can be changed on the Cron Inspector panel of the admin Toolbox but not be totally straightforward. We will need Steve (Mr Papa) to chime in here the author of both of those components - and he will be along later.
- That is how normal subscriptions work - immediate email sent upon a new subscribed-to post. Users who opt for the digest of course will not get those. So nothing to set for this - it is the normal operation.
- I assume you are the forum admin. You do not need to subscribe. If you go to the admin > your admin options panel in the forum administration, you can turn on the option to be emailed a notification of every new post that is made.

Thanks for the quick reply.
2) Your answer to 2 - I don't think that is how it is actually working. Which is what has triggered my Q's
For example, i have signed in as a dummy user which i created and 'subscribed' to the topics. I am yet to receive any email notification despite the last update being 5 hours ago.
I am the forum admin and have no problem tracking and being alerted to posts etc
The motivation for my question is that, one of the reasons members is sign, is to get access to, time sensitive, daily tips. So, if possible, i really need to try and find a way for them to get a notification as soon as we update the relevant thread.
Look forward to the responses and your help. Many thanks
On the help screen in the subscription setting page it states the following (just for info):
Subscribe to Forums
Using this option, you can chose to allow users to subscribe to forums. When they subscribe to a forum, they will receive a notification on EVERY post to that forum. Warning, on busy forums this may put a strain on the server and/or email system. It is not suggested for busy forums.
to carry Andy's thought a bit further, WP sends out all the emails - not us... We just tell wp to send ours... so knowing if widespread or not is important... the wp support forums are filled with issues with wp sending emails, particularly on shared hosting because of its use of wordpress@yourdomain.com... many hosts wont send emails from that account unless it actually exists on your server... a simple smtp plugin (such as HGK SMTP) usually solves those email issues...
