have you actually enabled the option for sending emails on subscriptions?  forum - components - subscriptions...

and users can opt out of email too...

have you configured any email settings on forum - options - email? and enabled?  if so, please tell us the settings...

though again, we dont send emails... wp does...

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I do appreciate that it is not the plugin that sends the email. However, I want to make sure I have explored all avenues for something I may have missed in the set up (plus any help with WP in general regarding emails is appreciated)

Am i missing anything? Anything else I can check?

would have been easier to upload the images here so we could see them...

I assume the email address admin@simplelays.co.uk really exists?

a bit puzzled...  we havent seen before where wp sends some emails but not others...

have you checked the error log and see if something is failing?

Re: Images - I couldn't see where I could post images (but i did just spot the attachments button so sorry about that)

Yes - admin@systemlays.co.uk exists and is the main email address

I haven't checked the error logs, i'll have to get my dev guy to take a look.

V frustrating and typical that it happens to me!

Checked the error logs and all clear on that front...

Any other suggestions/assitance you can provide? Key for me to get this sorted one way or another.

Not really. The SMTP plugin usually resolves peoples issues. I think after that we need to direct you back to WordPress support where you will find that reams have been written regarding WP emails.

But before you do that I would suggest you let an outside - like me - test this. So if you would like to send me some details - link to forum etc., then I am willing to sign up and subscribe to a topic or two just to test it. Cleaner and more definitive than you doing it yourself. Up to you....

How exactly does the subscription addon know when to send the emails? Does it use a cron job? If yes.. where does it set it for me to actually check that its set?

What about when a new post is added to the topic? Maybe the hooks misfire or are ignored.

The emails are sent - admin notifications and subscription emails - if needed - as a part of the post-save process of a forum post. And yes - the subscriptions are performed via WP hooks.

It looks to me like you are subscribed to this topic so - do you get the emails as you should? If you do then that should convince you that it does actually work as described!

It's not a question that I don't believe it work, i'm just trying to figure out why it doesn't work for me, for my system. Do you need to be a wp admin and forum moderator or just link to forum will do?
