I want to restrict access of 3 forums to a Wishlist Membership level called “Advanced”.

I have already 17 members assigned to the list.

Using the User Role Editor, a user role was created named “Advanced Member” and was set as one of the default roles.

I have gone back to Wishlist Levels and verify that the “Advanced” membership level the "Advanced Member” role checked. I does.

I have gone to Forum>Manage User Groups and added a new User Group named AdvancedGroup.

I have gone to Forum>Permissions>Manage Permissions and created a new permission named “OptionsVet User Access” with the features I believe we need each user to have.

I have finally gone to Forum>Forums>Manage Groups and Forums and located the 2 forums (Named “Files” and "Discussions" respectively) I want the users belonging to the Wishlist Membership level called “Advanced” to have exclusive access.

For each forum I have added AdvancedGroup=>OptionsVet User access. However, I do have other two permissions there:
Members=>Standard Access
Moderators=>Moderator Access.

I have deleted the Guest=>Limited Access
I do not know if I am supposed to delete the Members=>Standard Access to restrict access or not.

I have gone to the website with my administrator credentials and have access to the File forum and the Discussion forum and can see the content of each.

I have then logged out and signed in with the credential of a member of the “Advanced” level and have access to the File forum and the Discussion forum and can see the content of each.

I have then logged out and signed in with the credential of a member that does not belong to the “Advanced” level but here I also have access to the forums above. The access was NOT restricted.

hard to follow...  but a member will always get the 'best' permission for any particular forum...  so if they have membership in two usersgroups which are assigned with different permissions to a forum, they 'best' permission will win... so if one says allowed and one says denied, then they will be allowed...

so if they are in members or moderators, that may be the controlling permission vice the special one you created...

I gather from what you are saying is that I should only have in my forum one assigned user group and one permission set. i.e. the AdvancedGroup=>OptionsVet User access, and eliminate the Members=>Standard Access. I suppose I have to leave there also the Moderators=>Moderator Access.

However, if I delete the Members=>Standard Access, I get a red highlight on my forum and this message:

Warning - There are no usergroups with members that have permission to use this forum

I have tried to follow the instructions in codex to the letter, and that is how I have explained it to you. I am still not further ahead. Eventhough I have been working for days on this.

There are two ways of doing it. The method you have already outlined - remove all other User Group/Permission pairings from the target forum leaving just the one you want. Or - leave the Members User Group but just set it to a permission that has no access at all.

As to the warning message - are you saying that this is not correct? Are you saying that your AdvancedGroup does ave members? And when you go to the User Group management panel and click on the 'show users' button then members are listed in that Group?

I am begining to understand the logic of the structure here. I see that the issue is that my AdvancedGroup has no members.

I am not sure why because the WishList "Advanced" Level has 17 users. I though that the point of the whole process I went through as described in the codex was to get the two plug ins (Wishlist and Simple:Press) to work together.

Under the forum admin > User Groups >Map Users to User Group - have you mapped your WordPress roles to Simple:Press User Groups correctly? And have they been mapped since before the users registered?

The UserGroup is mapped to the roles correctly. However, the user list was imported into Simple:Press. They were created in bb:Press.

How do I proceed to accomplish this?

when a user gets mapped to a role, a hook is fired...  if they were moved to a usergroup, and the hook was not fired, then we dont know about...

have you tried going to forum - usergroups - map users to usergroups and at the bottom, remapping all users based on their current usergroup?

I have done the following:

Forum>User Groups>User Memberships

I have verified that the Advancedmember is maded to AdvancedGroup

I have scroll down to MapUsers

Select mapping criteria: Add user membership based on WP role to existing memberships.

click on MapUsers

A window pops saying that 214 users mapped. This is the entire population of users, Advanced or not.

=========

Then I have done this:

Forum>User Groups > Manage User Groups

I have scroll down to AdvancedGroup

Show/Hide Users

I get: No Members in this User Group.

OK... So now - select one of those users in your 'advanced' grouping. Go to the WordPress Admin > Users and search for that user and bring up their WordPress user details (using the Edit link). What WordPress Role are they set to?
