Support Forum
Hello
We are currently using BBPress as forum software. If we move to Simple Press does it replace or augment BBPress? Will I be able to keep my current forum posts?
We currently allow our Forum only to be seen my members (no guest access or viewing). Is this possible with Simple Press?
Finally, and this is actually most important: with BBPress when a notification is sent to the forum participants about a new post they are given a link to it. If, however, they are not logged in they must first log in but then they are not taken to the new forum post, but the main forum page. Will Simple Press allow us to provide notifications that will in turn redirect to the proper forum post after login?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Hey Josef,
Not 100% sure what you mean by 'augment' BBPress, however we do offer our Importer which is capable of importing from BBPress, in which case Simple:Press could replace your BBPress forum.
Using a combination of user groups, permissions and WordPress you can fully tailor how you want access to work, so yes it is possible. Forum users are simply WordPress users, so you can redirect non logged in users (guests) away from the forum page using a capable WordPress plugin, and using the forum permissions and user groups you can control access on a forum by forum basis.
You might want to take a look at the Subscriptions plugin for user notification. It will send an email with a URL to the topic, although if you are not logged in you will of course be prompted to do so and I believe you will then be taken to the root of the forum. However, Subscriptions adds a 'Subscribed' button to the head of the forum so a user could easily click to reveal a popup of unread posts from their subscriptions. This plugin also allows you as an admin to toggle automatically subscribing a user to a topic they post in - automatically receiving emails so to speak, but this is something a user can disable in their profile should they not want to be subscribed.
Hope that helps.
