Hello all -
Site in question: http://www.bandofbrothersinchrist.com
I apologize in advance, as I do not want to hijack this thread - but I thought I would chime in on this. I am experiencing a similar issue on a site I am currently developing. The site appears to have zero issues on any pages in Safari, Firefox and Chrome, but fails substantially in IE9 - and only when viewing certain forum page hierarchy levels - the topic list within a forum, or posts within a topic - and only when a user is logged-in.
The issue occurs when a valid registered user logs into the forum and views anything beyond the initial forum page. If he/she views the topic list or a list of posts within a topic, the css gets borked on the site as a whole. CSS is being ignored or there is some conflict. The TinyMCE Rich Text Editor is missing or not displaying correctly. The issue does not occur when a non-logged-in visitor views those same pages - so I am stumped for the moment. I am using a child theme based upon the popular Canvas theme by Woothemes. It is a responsive theme, and may do some things differently, but I do not believe the theme is the culprit here as the conflicting CSS only appears to be loaded under very specific conditions: logged-in user, on specific forum pages, in IE9 (and possibly lesser versions). Yes, I have a ton of Simple:Press plugins installed as well.
So, my question is, do I need to just wait for Simple:Press 5.2 before I tell my IE9 users that the forum is available - or is there potentially a temporary fix?
If anyone would like login credentials pm'd to them, I would be happy to provide them.
Thanks, Ray
Yes, this matches the experience of my IE9 user. No problems until she logs in. She can view the forum, but if she clicks on threads, the problems start. I've deactivated my "Shareaholic" plugin, which looked like it had a scripting conflict, but she still can't get threads to load. The site times out or just presents a blank page with an IE error message. This doesn't happen with IE8 users--only IE9 and IE7.
Very odd...!

I disabled the plugin, but it didn't help. She still gets a "slow-loading script" error message. IE8 users aren't having this issue--only this gal on IE9. And it only happens when she logs in and tries to go deeper in the forum (past the first opening page). She can't view threads or post.
Thanks for checking into this!
Cheers,
Jennie
rdykier: This might be down to the recently discovered fact that IE will only load a small number of CSS stylesheet files before refusing to load any more. We do have a fix for this coming in 5.2 - see out last blog post on this issue under 'News' menu. There is no way to be able to offer you a code fix for this because it is a complex piece of coding spread around a large number of files. Perhaps reducing the number of CSS files - if that could be done - might prove this one way or the other. Not easy I know.
Jennie: Unless I have misunderstood this doesn't sound really the same thing. Your user is getting these strange 'Done' messages from somewhere on your site. Is that not right?
By the way - remembering that I am a Mac user who has not been near IE for about 10 years now so this might be way off target - but is it possible to change the User Agent in IE? If so, is it at all possible that your one user with this problem is running their IE9 with a user agent of IE7?

Thank you for the reply, Yellow Swordfish.
I suppose I will anxiously await the release of Simple:Press 5.2 then in the next week or two. Until that time, I will direct my users to install Firefox, Chrome or Safari to avoid the issues that plague my forums when viewed in IE by a logged-in user.
Kind regards, Ray
I had the same problems as Jennie Chancey. Now I deactivated The "Thank You for Post" Plugin and all works fine with the internet explorer (7-9).

First I didn't believe my users, cause when I looked at the forum with IE everything looked fine. Than yesterday I got a mail, in which a user asked my how to make a post in the new forum and how to read threads and I decided to look at the IE again. Everything works well, when you are not logged in, when you are logged in, you only can see the first page normal, if you go deeper there is no layout anymore tony text.
I deactivated all plugins and after I deactivated the thank you for your post plugin everything looked fine.
