Really a strange problem indeed.
My sucks site updates fine but docsplace gives the before mentioned error. Basically identical sites with the same plugins etc. And on the same server too.

I don't know if the URL is secret based on whether a purchase has been made or not, but if it is, please just PM the URL to me so I can do the update.

Hello,
As an extension of this thread, https://simple-press.com/suppo.....7-fails/ 5 months later and many plugin and Word updates later (all to latest versions), the same error persists.
If you want to review everything that has been checked and tried, the old thread has many details. I have been manually downloading and installing from each link, only way to update Simple:Press and it's plugins.
Second question while here. Members can edit their comments but want to be able to delete their comments in the forum, sporting a feature with a admin definable time frame of 5 minutes showing a count down much like this plugin which works wonderfully for Wordpress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....editing/ Anything like this in the works? Currently there is a permanent edit comment option which is not ideal.

I will have to leave the upgrade question to Steve or Andy, but as to the editing question have you tried out the permission 'Can edit own posts for time period'? This can be defined in Forum > Options > Global Settings > Post Editing.

I gave up on this situation. Been the same story on my docsplace.org blog. I have changed my theme, paused then disabled CloudFlare. Nothing works. No errors in Firefox console. Other WordPress plugins upgrade fine.
The other site (the same wp version and plugins) updates correctly. All i can do is ftp download the updated plugins and upload to the other site.

I found the sp update plugin problem. Turns out it was the CloudFlare plugin blocking the update request.
Seems CloudFlare had a serious security hole and how they fixed it was beyond logic. Deleting the cf plugin and running mod cloudflare on my server cured that problem. Found that today as 5 sp plugins needed updating and this time they did!

In an attempt to solve the mystery, I am posting my plugins here. If you have any of these plugins and the autoupdates work for you, please let me know so that I can remove them from my list and start trouble shooting.
