I installed the editor, but it is not showing up and there is nothing I can edit. What am I missing?

The first questions have to be did you install it correctly in the proper SP Plugins folder and then successfully activate it? And – if so – take a look at your SP Profile – Options – Post options to make sure it is selected as your preferred editor.

also make sure you have it selected for users in forum – options – global settings…  over in the Post Editing section…

Yes, I installed it and activated it and the option is with TinyMCE Editor as the default!

Wait, now I am confused. What is the difference between the first one and the second one? I only found the forum – options – global settings way to configure it.

each user in their profile can then choose which editor they want… so the first sets up which editors are available… then users can pick which one they like…

so check your sp profile, options, posting options on the front end and see which editor you have selected…

I cannot seem to find the posting options…

are you looking in the right place? Using the SP profile form? See the profile button beside the login button at the top of this forum? Go there and then select ‘Options’ from the tabs and then ‘edit posting options’ from the menu…

Perfect, thank you so much. I found it.

One more question though: how do I get the whole  editing toolbar to show up now?

can you explain just what you mean by ‘whole toolbar’. By default, SP has a more cut down version of tinyMCE than, say, the WP post editor version. This is because many of those options do not really apply the same to forum posts.

But of you want to add some back in then if you go to the forum admin > components > editor panel then there are options to do so. The popup help should tell you all you need to get that done.

I’d like it to appear just like here with the options of “bold”, “italics” etc. and not just a box where you can write in.

I’ll attach 2 screenshots: one of how it looks like in my forum and one of how I’d like it to look like.

so if you have done what we asked, and you still get just a plain box (is only go like half way across?), then its probably a js conflict… see:  http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/faq/troubleshooting/what-is-this-jquery-conflict/

if you gave us a link to your site, we could check for obvious ones…

Forgot to attach the links… This is the problem and what it looks like. In order to send you a link, I’d have to set up usernames and passwords for you and give you the password for the site. I’d appreciate it if you could see if you can help me otherwise. Screen-Shot-2012-07-13-at-9.37.58-PM-1.pngScreen-Shot-2012-07-13-at-9.39.20-PM.png

Afraid that we really do need to take a close look at the actual HTML and code being generated which we can only do with the site being opened.

So you really do need to open a temporary user account for us just to get this thread sorted. May I suggest that you use our PM system to safely send credentials to both myself and to ‘Mr Papa’. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.
