What am I missing? Apart from the prefix attribute of the html tag at the top I don't see any meta 'og' tags at all in the source? Surely must be missing something...

That's what i had to remove from the forum page. Now when i social share a forum post the post gets scraped and gives up the title and description from sp post meta. An image that is in the post also gets scraped because of it's meta matches the post. It's a workaround since sp does not support og yet.

To get the forum page itself to properly feed the seo title to sp i used this workaround.

No - sorry - you've lost me. I already said I was a dunce in this department 🙂

I was expecting to see a bunch of meta property tags such as "og:url", "og:title", "og:site_name", "og:description", "og:type", "og:locale" etc...

Unfortunately i'm not a coder and wouldn't have a clue how to add og tag code. But i can say it's imperative to beable to socail share simple press forum posts properly.

As it is now when sharing a forum post all that displays on the shared site is the forum page title and possibly the main forum description itself. All social sharing sites today look for open graph tags in the content being shared. With sp not having any og they grab the forum page itself.

By removing the default forum pages open graph tags, i'm forcing the sharing sites to pull the simple press post meta title and description. If an image is in that forum post it should be grabbed too.

Like i said, this is a way of getting around the forum pages og tags.

Suggested added code would be:

<meta property="og:locale" content="en_US"/>
<meta property="og:type" content="website"/>
<meta property="og:title" content="sp forum post title"/>
<meta property="og:description" content="sp post description"/>
<meta property="og:url" content="https;//yourdomain.com/"/>
<meta property="og:site_name" content="sp site name"/>
<meta property="og:image" content="https;//yourdomain.com/image.jpg"/>

With this added, simple press forum posts would be easily shared, and rank higher in seo.

Just trying to be helpful. Y'all have created a fantastic product here. Lets tweak the sharing and seo factor a tad.

Regards, Ed

I forgot to add. A featured image selection toggle on the create post page would be useful. Either select from a user uploaded image displayed in the forum post, or something default to simple press. Possibly if no image in the forum post, a default can be selected.

Really appreciate all you guys help over the years wink

Regards, Ed

Using, say, the first image in a thread would be a good idea but is probably not really that achievable. The Meta tags have to be compiled in the head section and are created before the thread content is parsed. Biut I will look into it.
