FidoSysop: Curious. SO hit and miss for you. But clearly OK for many others. I guess we need to check to see if WP have moved the goal posts on this in some way although you would expect that to effect everyone. And the manual download worked without throwing a 503....

Even if the update does not complete and the error is showing in the page, the option to upgrade the database is still present. Possibly add a version check before prompting to upgrade the database?

Yes it was possible to download the update by pasting the url shown in a new browser window. So the file was available, just something interrupted the update process. Possibly CloudFlare rocketscript. But both sites are pretty much identical. Only the themes are different.

Not sure I understand this: 'Forum menu offers nothing' What does that actually mean please?
I mean the forum menu when not in the WP admin. When the admin is using the forum. Messages, etc. I guess I misunderstood your question. LOL
On the back end, first a recommended upgrade, after the fail, mention of the database upgrade. I don't want the database to be newer than the plugin.
Forget this mention of a DB upgrade in the update section of the WP Admin.
That is what I figured. I think that FidoSysop's suggestion to check version before mention of the DB upgrade is a good one.
The important thing is what the forum menu in the admin says. You say it offers nothing but I don't follow what you mean by that. And you didn't tell me about the front-end/public forum itself and if it is working as usual.
I copied and pasted the back end above. As you can see it offers an update to 5.5.9 Build 13315 from 5.5.8 installed.

Same problem with the plugins by the way. I guess that one is obvious seeing that the server can't connect.

Next problem. I installed the Simple:Press plugin manually but the 3 plugins that I need to update are not available individually at the store.
How do I get the individual plugins?
- File Uploader with Pulpwood
- Post Ratings
- Template Tags and Widgets
Could you guys PM me a link or something? Thanks

Sorry don't follow, do you mean:
Am I right in thinking something was done to honour your original Gold membership? If so you should be able to download them via the checkout as normal..
Try running the plugins upgrade only. When it errors out copy / paste the file url shown and download from that. I assume the files will have to be unzipped before or after uploading into their required locations. That's a temporary work around.
